Opening painting exhibition THE OTHER SIDE Oct 15, 2016, Marsciano

Happy to announce my painting exhibition, THE OTHER SIDE coming up October 15, 2016.
Below, press release and map of the event.

COMUNICATO STAMPA

Come corpo e come carattere, preziosa presenza e incompresa figura umana, forte e debole.

i Vinarelli at Torgiano, Italy where artists paint with watercolours and WINE

Each year in the beautiful town of Torgiano, not far from Perugia, Italy, there is a great event where painters paint with WINE!
It's called i Vinarelli, because in Italian watercolours is called acquarelli (done with acqua, water) but here they paint with vino so....Vinarelli!

It is great fun, lots of artists sit at a long table, actually several tables, have dinner and then paint. Any subject matter is fine. The public has fun walking around and watching, taking pictures and lots of wine is drunk that night. But mostly a lot of it is used to paint with.
Here are some photos from the evening:

Watercolors at home

Now that I have a studio to paint in, that is where my paints are: in the studio.
Now that I have been home sick for a week, and wanting to paint, I pull out what I have here.
Watercolors.
Easy to clean up, easy to put out on the table and use.
Here is a little woman, a very tiny painting on 10.5cmx14,8cm (4 1/8"x 5 7/8") paper, that I call Redhead girl.

I Vinarelli - a close up look

August 20, 2012 -- busy putting my drawing on watercolour paper, ready to paint with....

                                                                   wine and watercolours.

To my left, friend, artist and photographer, well-known Pietro Crocchioni.

Here I am with Sylvie Béal, Mayor of Culture of Torgiano, and Pietro Crocchioni.

Getting to work with a spray gun...filled with WINE and a bit of color from my watercolours.

My first painting of the evening, swimmers with caps and glasses, each one holding a wineglass, while swimming. I was inspired by the Olympics, and the rest came with the event i Vinarelli, where everyone paints with wine and watercolours, each year during this event.

Pietro painted three pieces, I did two of them. Here I am  cutting out curls that is the hair of the woman I painted, and then coloured with wine.

A very very hot evening, but passed in a fun and original way, with old friends and new ones made that evening.

Getting ready to "shoot" my painting with wine!

Here is Pietro at work, being filmed, while another painter, Stefania, looks on, and also Emanuele Ferlicca of Perla Arredamenti, Assisi.

And then, my turn....

Here I am working on my second painting, the first one is drying.

Here is the long table where 80 artists painted, and altogether I believe that we were 150 people to have dinner.
Quite an event, fun, and although warm, a very good turnout.
The Vinarelli continue this week and the last day is the 25th of August. Still time to come around and see the artshows, and enjoy the lovely town of Torgiano. See you here tonight, I will be there!

tonight...i Vinarelli!!

Why is tonight so special?
Well, when is it that you see about 100 people seated at long tables in the middle of a small town, painting with watercolours and W I N E!!!???
TONIGHT!

I'll be there together with many many artists, painting all sorts of different subject matter, BUT using wine instead of water.

First we will all share a delicious Umbrian meal, THEN we start painting.

Have to rest up now, as well as get my materials ready for this evening. Should be fun, have done it other years, and always amusing as well as interesting.

See you later, with photos of course.  This photo was taken in 2003 during i Vinarelli.

Creative Workshop

http://www.onnivora.org/

When I discovered this wonderful little theater that opened up recently in Perugia, I was quite surprised and very pleasantly so.
I had a show there months ago (Stephanie, Barefoot on Stage -- A Piedi Nudi sul Palco), and then began giving workshops.
The next one on April 15th at 10-12.30 will be about painting with a piece of cardboard, or other firm heavy cards.
If you are in town, in the neighborhood, why not stop by?
This painting, which is quite large, was painted in this fashion. I used tempera and lots of cut up cardboard to get a very free effect.

Back to NORMAL

...but WHAT is NORMAL to an artist?
I took the show down today, and that meant loading up the car (actually, two cars) and unpacking everything at home. Not only THAT, but since we painting our place this summer, the paintings I have never actually were put up yet. So........that meant, take the show down, and put my paintings up at home!
Lots of nails these days, lots of deciding, and lots of paintings and wrapping of paintings everywhere!
For some that is un-normal, for me, I guess you could say it is back to normal.

Yes, an art show coming up on Saturday, December 10 at the new theatre in Ponte Felicino Perugia.
The translation above is BAREFOOT Stephanie barefoot on stage.
I will be showing various artworks, paintings, my shoe-sculptures, new small paintings (mostly portraits) as well as photography. Also I have prepared small items that can be bought at modest prices for one-of-a kind friends, what is better than a one-of-a-kind object.

Dishes to be washed.....paintings to be painted

If I get to the DISHES....I can't get to the painting. If I get to the painting....I can't get to the dishes!!
Se penso ai piatti, non posso dipingere. Se dipingo, non posso lavare i piatti!

Portrait painting

ACTUALLY.....this new portrait (this is just a detail)  of a girl sitting on a sofa, is from a photo I took of a girl I met, only she was dark-haired, and the outfit she was wearing was nothing like this (except for the stripes). BUT the composition was the same, and the look on her face was very similar.
SHE motivated me to do this painting....what do you think?

STUDIO 10 group - Los Angeles

So proud of my mom and her fun, lively and talented artist friends in Los Angeles. They meet every Wednesday to paint, and then go out to lunch. I've been with them several times, painted there too when in L.A. Great group, and lovely photo (there's my mom in the front in black and white blouse).

The best way to know who I am is to see what I create. Take a look at this blog or my other one regarding my art.

Double images....
LOVE the double or triple image maker on my Nikon D80. Just set it, and then take two or three pics.

What's the weather like now in Perugia?

Cold one day, sunny the next. Cold in the house. But we still need our coats or lightweight ones or padded jackets outside. Chilly, and not sunny. I like it like this, no problem for me.
